Top 10 Things I Want Right Now

Filed under: Grinchy McGrouch, Pregnant, Top 10 Lists — Posted by Pocklock at 11:35 am on Sunday, June 29, 2008

10. Someone to bake me cupcakes, deliver them to my door, but not to come inside to visit because my house is a damn disgusting disaster and I have no energy to get off this couch and make it any better. I’m not in the mood to be judged.

9. Someone to clean my house and actually not MISS spots — like the cobwebs behind the picture frames in the stairwell and the spot under the cabinets in the kitchen that collects various items due to it being EHH’s favorite spot to chop items for whatever amazing meal he’s making.

8. Someone to book me a massage, wax, mani and pedi, drive me there, and keep me company the entire time because GOD I can’t sit still that long and WHY is the nearest salon that’s any good at these things almost 30 minutes away and so damn expensive?

7. A T-shirt that says, “Go kiss someone else’s ass” which I will wear proudly every day of my life. I hate ass kissers. You’re so transparent. Knock it off.

6. An endless supply of water bottles that aren’t such a pain in the ass to clean and are BPA free.

5. Someone to tell me in no uncertain terms that both Entourage and Rescue Me will be back with new seasons sometime soon. Like as in, this summer. Or as in, this weekend.

4. Someone to recommend a good movie that doesn’t use stupid, childish humor, cartoon characters, or boring uninspired dialog.

3. Ditto the above, but with regard to a book. Did I hear a rumor Jane Green has a new book out? How on earth did I miss this?

2. Someone to send me a list of songs I need to buy on iTunes that will continually keep me zen and/or in a happy, relaxed place. OR songs that will make me want to get up and dance like this pregnant woman.

And the number 1 thing I want right now,

1. Someone to tell me that I can have a turkey sandwich with white American cheese on a fresh hard roll with very little mayo and very little spicy mustard and some lettuce and not feel bad about it. I can’t stop thinking about this sandwich. I want it SO freaking bad. Stupid listeria.

OMG, that sandwich sounds so good. If I lived near you, the cupcakes would probably be delivered tonight. I love baking for no good reason other than sharing with people.

I don’t know if you follow “Dexter” on tv, but Aardvark says that there’s a series of books that inspired the series. I have yet to lay eyes on them, but she highly recommends them.

My personal recommendation is anything but Augusten Burroughs. His stuff is perfect for pregnancy because it’s just written in snippets. You can devour it all at once, or just read a passage and then come back to it later. Also, it made me pee a little from laughing so hard.

Susan Miller’s “While I was Gone” is an excellent book.

Also, if it makes you feel any better, I ate deli meat (and hot dogs – gasp) for both of my entire pregnancies. I think there is a risk but if you get your meat from good stores and eat it right away, it’s so minimal.

The reason why they don’t recommend deli meat is because of miscarriage issues (so really it is only an issue in the beginning of your pregnancy). You can have deli meat as long as you heat it first, microwaving it for less than a minute will kill the bacteria, I can’t remember what the OB told me the exact time was, but I know it was less than a minute. And, AndreAnna is right, the longer you keep deli meat the more bacteria will grow on it.

I gave up lunch meats too when I was pregnant and of course that’s all I ever wanted. After I had the baby? I practically ate an entire deli all by myself.

I suggest using that sandwich as motivation to push. Have someone holding that sandwich in front of you, saying you can have it as soon as you get her out. Quickest. Labor. In. History.

Oh, I would TOTALLY play Cupcake Fairy. I love bringing people food, but I always want to hang it on the doorknob and sneak away.

I’m enjoying Love and Other Near-Death Experiences by Mil Millington.

My OB said that microwaving deli meat would eliminate the danger—but the thought of microwaving deli meat made me gag.

Please have the sandwich honey! It’ll be ok. Really. :) Maybe if it’s pre-packaged and not the kind you have the deli person cut. Does this mean you won’t eat a sub (Subway) or anything? Hot dogs? It’s ok, go for it!
