Long Weekend Recap
We had such an amazing weekend. Our little “stay-cation” turned out to be a great idea and we really made the best of it.
Friday afternoon we played with Lil Foot and Baby Dorkus and then went out for pizza at a restaurant we’d only tried once. We now have a new favorite pizza place in town. After dinner we hung around at Borders and I picked up a few new non-baby books. A break in the reading material subject matter that I really need.
Saturday we spent the entire day together chatting and enjoying each other’s company. We hung around the house lazily all morning and then went out to do some errands – I had to get Cass and baby Lexi’s shower gift(s) and return a skirt to Destination Maternity. We came home and napped in the afternoon sunshine on the living room couches and our treat for the weekend – that night – we went out for Indian food at a restaurant we hadn’t tried, but was highly recommended by the Lil Foot family. On the way there we stopped at Wall-hell and purchased (on sale!) what I think will be our best purchase of the summer; new deck furniture! We have spent more hours out there in the last two days then we have in the last two years we’ve owned this house! So exciting.
Sunday morning we spent gardening and cleaning up outside. I watered plants, EHH weeded. We bird-watched and had our own little bird soap opera when EHH pulled down a next that was hooked under our awning and discovered two unhatched eggs in it. It broke my heart and the mommy hormones started flowing when I thought of the poor mama bird without her babies. I knew we couldn’t leave the nest there, but it was still very sad to see the mama bird come back, land on the railing, and tweet in wonder. I have such a soft spot for helpless animals.
Sunday afternoon we became major town suburbonites and went to the town parade with the Lil Foot and Dorkus families. We set up camp in front of one of the many pretty churches in the center of town and waited over an hour for the parade to pass us. It was great though. Worth the wait – as small town parades go. Elementry, Middle, and High School bands played. The VFW marched. Old cars, shiny fire trucks, the local pre-school even marched (or rode) and tossed candy to the other kids cheering them on from the side of the road. The church had free sno-cones, hot dogs, lemonade, and cookies. It was great!
After the parade ended, we came back and had a nice BBQ feast with beer, wine, and iced-tea (for me). I made my first macaroni salad of the season, which is one of the four things in my kitchen repertoire, and it was fantastic. EHH was grill master and everyone ate till their bellies delight. LFM brought an amazing chocolate cream pie which is calling my name from the fridge as I type.
Yesterday EHH had to prime the bathroom in the nursery and get it ready for the patching that BIL will do this week. It took him a few hours and I stayed away from the paint fumes by catching up on blogs and reading the news online for the first time all weekend. I set up camp on the deck, my laptop cord just reaching, and loved the comfy new furniture. I drank two cups of decaf coffee and when EHH had to go out to get another paint tray, he returned with a bagel. Because he is teh awesome.
We headed up to Mom’s for a couple hours to celebrate their anniversary, observe the progress of their kitchen remodel, and use their grill for BBQ #2. They had been away all weekend so it was good to see them and visit for a while. Their house is right on the lake and while ours has a nice pond and fountain in the backyard, the view from their deck is far superior. It was great to hang out in the warm sun and watch the boats pass by.
On the way home the depression set in (though EHH tried desperately to stave it off by stopping at my favorite road-side ice cream shoppe) about the weekend coming to a close. I tried to reframe it by thinking that this is going to be a short week. Summer hours start on Friday so we’re really looking at just three and a half days. I can do this. I will make it through this week and the next and all the ones leading up to when I can be home in my nest with my newborn doing the job I’ve always wanted to do – being a Mom.
How was your weekend? What did you do?

I love deck furniture – it’s the best investment we made in our house because I just LOVE being out there. In fact I may go out there and work for a little while.
And I hope you locked the house good and tight because I would totally be coming to your fridge for some of that chocolate goodness!

Oooh, a deck. I have a teeny tiny deck. But, I have 12 acres of land, so I suppose that is better. And a gigantic swingset.
Someday a deck!
Thanks for stopping by.
