I finally have 5 seconds to tell you about the rest of our weekend and then the return to the 3rd circle of hell they call my office.
Saturday we slept until 10am for maybe the 2nd time in our entire relationship. We’re NOT late sleepers. EHH is usually up by 8 and me 9 at the latest. That’s when we’re both not up at 7! We just don’t sleep late. It’s not us. But apparently the whole “We’re on vacation” thing hit and we slept in and got quite a late start to the day.
We got a bite to eat at Au Bon Pain and did some shopping before our awesome Boston Duck Tour. We were real tourists this trip. The Duck Tour was great. We were actually IN the Charles River, or “The Chuck” as our “conDUCtor” called it. Yes, it was a couple of hours filled with cheeze, but it was fun. We have some pictures that I will eventually post to Flickr.
After the tour we walked through Fanieul Hall and Quincy Market on our way to find some awesome Italian food for a early dinner in the North End. It was pretty chilly out on Saturday afternoon and after walking up and down Hanover Street trying to find a restuarant that just “felt right”, my legs went numb. We settled on Il Villagio and it. Was. Awesome. I had lobster ravioli and ZERO allergic reaction! That makes for a great night out.
We took a cab back to Back Bay; our bellies too full to walk, and shopped some more at the Prudential Mall. After a couple hours of shopping, we went for a drink at the Marriot Bar. We sat for a while listening to the live entertainment and actually got hungry again. Sushi Bar. One roll. One Martini for me and 2 Kierin’s for him.
We went up to our room to change our clothes and shoes and decided to go to the hotel bar for a couple drinks there before calling it a night. We forced ourselves to do this. We were tired, but it was only 8pm and we actually were trying not to be 90 years old for once.
At the bar the drinks went down to easy. 1-2-3-4 martini’s. We started talking to the people around us – strangers. Total strangers. We talked to them anyway. We found out that they were from Connecticut as well and that the girl, up until two weeks ago, worked in the building next to mine and was a client of EHH’s company. Small world. The Strangers bought us drinks. We exchanged business cards. The Strangers were calling us Roger and Katie. We were answering. And the next thing I know, we were following The Strangers out of the bar. I had no idea where we were going, but we ended up in a club where The Strangers paid the cover charge and bought us more drinks. It was here that I decided it was a good idea to order a Stoli Raz and 7. It was NOT a good idea.
We danced for one song, got yelled at for trying to leave by walking through the kitchen (I was just following the exit signs), and found our way back across the street to our hotel. I have no idea what happened to The Strangers.
It wasn’t long that we were back in our room before I was puking like an undergrad and my husband was trying to prevent me from sleeping on the bathroom floor (But it’s nice and cool!). It was not a shining moment for either of us.
The next morning I woke up with a blazing headache and waves of nausea. We vowed never to drink again. Who the hell did we think we were? What are we, back in college? We’re morons! We talked to Strangers! We let Strangers buy us drinks! Who were those people? Why did we hang out with them? What idiots!
It was a hangover that lasted 8 hours. It was a long drive home, but once I got home, I took what was probably one of the best naps on record. However, when I woke up and went to pee for the first time since early morning (despite the two bottles of water I drank during the ride home) I felt the beginnings of a UTI. The symptoms (pain, fever, chills, more nausea) landed me in the ER for a second consecutive Sunday.
It’s funny. It’s not like it was an “emergency” by definition, but I’ve had UTI’s before I knew that if I didn’t get treated immediately, the infection would spread and I would a- not be able to sleep and 2 – not be able to go to work today and d – I didn’t have time for either.
We were in and out of there in an hour and I had enough drugs to get me through the night. I know I had a fever when I went to sleep because I was freezing, under 3 blankets, dressed in sweats, and actually had socks on. Shocker. I woke up at 4am in a pool of sweat, but felt 100% better.
The reason why me going to work today was not optional was because of the two new people starting on our team. My direct boss is still on vacation as well as another team member that I have been covering for since last Tuesday. I was responsible for starting their training, doing my own work, and still covering for her. I knew it was going to be a busy day. And it was. I left work after 7pm. Ten hour days are not my norm.
J & M stopped by to show us their new car and look at ours. I love the drop-ins by good friends. It definitely makes us feel loved. We chatted and watched some of the game – M being a huge Seahawks fan. J and I had a beer. So much for my vow to never drink again.
So that’s what’s been going on. I don’t think I’ve neglected my blog this much in a long time. Two full days. Slacker. Only four more days of NaBloPoMo. I’ve been out of the running for any cool prize for a while, but I still loved the concept. Maybe I’ll pick another month and do my own little NaBloPoMo. I think Steph will join me.
