A New Blog is Born

I can’t think of a better place from which to be writing my first blog post on my new site. The effort it takes to post is parallel to the effort it took to build this site, but only because of my location. I welcome the challenge. It’s worth it.

We’re in Maine. Right on the incredibly gorgeous coast. My husband’s grandfather built the walls that surround us and installed the windows that allow the picturesque view of the water, rocks, seagulls, and unusual cloud formations. The old wooden rocking chair I’m sitting in was caned by his grandmother, Ruth. He just came out of the bedroom, the glow of his childhood memories painted on his face, holding a large piece of wood with what looks like a game board on it and said, “Remember that game I told you that my sister and I would play? Here it is!” The glow on his face is something I don’t see very often, but it does appear now and then. Most frequently in Maine.

The Octagon Cottage boasts a wrap around deck just 8 steps from the rocks that greet the ocean (I know, I counted), a large old fashion woodstove that has the date 1975 engraved inside, living room, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a full kitchen, and a loft. There is a small black and white television that gets CBS with only minimal lines through it due to the rabbit ears with foil on them sticking out toward the sliding glass doors. This will allow us to watch the Patriots game on Sunday, but during all other hours, it’s more enjoyable to listen to music and truly relax. It really is a cottage by definition – used only when the seasons allow.

The posting efforts I spoke of earlier include dial-up AOL service. Something I purposely continued paying for specifically for our trips up here. We were able to touch base via email with a childhood friend of my husband’s who’s family still lives up here. We saw them on the last trip and had such a great time that we were hoping to see each other again. He checked his email and we secured a time to meet up with them later in the weekend.

This morning we walked the rocks as much as the tide would allow which wasn’t much. We then headed into the Port and bought 3 lobsters for dinner. They’re stacked in the vegetable drawer of the fridge waiting their doom.

I’m not sure if I’ll get to post from here again. I promise that once we get home, I’ll be able to write something introductory for the new site. Until then, please check the other links on the site, bookmark www.pocklock.com, and patiently wait till next time.
